How To Clean Converse

Your Converse trainers can be made with a mixture of materials, so it’s important to know how to clean each element.

Converse states that you should never clean your footwear with a washing machine, and instead, take care to wash and clean each fabric properly.

To clean canvas, leather and synthetic materials, use a damp cloth and rub gently with a mild soap mixed with lukewarm water.

To clean suede, use a suede brush to clean out any dirt. Make sure the suede is dry, and do not use water to clean suede.

How To Lace Converse

There are loads of ways to style your Converse just by lacing them up how you like.

Our favourite way is to keep it classic with a straight lacing style or crossover style.

Here’s how to straight-lace:

First, take your shoelace across the bottom two eyelets from outside to inside. Even them up, and take your left-hand lace up to the next eyelet on that side, and across to the right. Then, take your right-hand lace, skip the eyelet above, and go for the next one, then across. Each lace will skip an eyelet and you’ll be left with a clean-cut laced look.

Want the criss-cross look instead?

Start the same way as straight lacing – with your shoelace ends in each bottom eyelet from outside to inside. Then, take your left-hand lace, cross it over to the next eyelet on the right hand, and take your right-side lace to the next eyelet on the left. Repeat all the way up to the top!

You could even go bold with two colours of laces at once, or find lattice-style lacing techniques to switch up your look.

When Did Converse Start?

The Converse brand began back in 1908 as the ‘Converse Rubber Company’ in Massachusetts. The brand’s first basketball trainer launched in 1917, with the same canvas upper and rubber make up that is still seen in today’s designs.

After an acquisition by Nike in 2003, Converse continues to capture a heritage energy through its trainers, combined with tech-packed innovation from Nike and timeless designs.
