When the first adidas Stan Smith trainers were debuted in 1965 (going by the name of the French tennis player Robert Haillet), they revolutionised the world of tennis footwear, being the first shoes in the sport to feature a leather upper. The sneakers gained their ‘Stan Smith’ name in 1978, and this branding has remained a constant ever since. Though these runners are part of the adidas Originals collection, the distinctive three stripes have been replaced by lines of ventilation holes, with most of the traditional styling absent. The classic design of the Stan Smiths hasn’t significantly changed over the years, but there are plenty of variations in colour and pattern, which you can find in the JD Sports Ireland selection.
